Mount House, Highclere near Newbury

The brief was was create a highly ecology respectful and energy efficient new country house. Challenges including coming up with a design to replace the locally listed but derelict existing building and conservation area status. At the time of construction, this was the largest passive type house for a masonry constructed building in England. The design, inspired by 1930s classical revival, achieved the highest standards for energy efficiency. Building materials include bespoke bricks, hand-made clay tiles, bronzed relief panels and crafted stonework inside. The house features an eleganat Chesney’s cantilevered stone staircase. Scot was involved from the outset of the project, developing a brief with the clients, designing the proposals, taking it through planning, building regulations and detailed design stages, project management and completion on site.
